I had the most fantastic dream the other night. We were driving in a parking lot with the kiddos, and kept going over these huge speed bumps. They were really bouncy and Baby Connor loved it. When we were driving out of the lot, Connor said "Daddy, drive on the popsicle sticks again!!!" They were his first words! We were flabbergasted and so enamored by him that he called the bumps "popsicle sticks". I woke up so happy.

We took a ride on the haunted Heber Creeper on Thursday night. The first 10 minutes Miss Katie kept saying, "Mom, this is boring. This is boring." Once we pulled into the 'graveyard' and she saw that the zombies outside were real people, she wasn't bored anymore. Then when they actually got on the train and started walking around, she was scared. It was awesome.

The monsters kept coming up to us and screaming, and Connor would scream right back and then laugh his head off.

Here is an excerpt from an email my dad sent last week. He was riding in the back of a pickup with my mom driving on a totally washed out trail. I love that they get to have "real" mission experiences. Africa sounds almost as rad as Bulgaria.

As I was holding on for dear life, catching big air along the way, as your mom said we had a drunken Muslim jump in with me. (Muslims aren't supposed to drink alcohol are they?) First he wanted to know why we were in Sierra Leone and I told him we were on a mission. "What church" he says so I tell him and he says "oh! you're a Christian." I say yes and he says "I'm a Muslim." I said that's great. Then he wants to tell me his life story but his brain isn't functioning too well. All of the sudden he says "do you love me" I said I try to love all men, another bump, and he lands on my leg, laughing the whole time. He gave me his phone number and insisted I call him on Tuesday. What's up with that? He asked me two more times if I loved him before we got to the place where he got out. That was the adventure in the back of the pickup. Never a dull moment here.

I shot my last Andersen wedding over the weekend. Kass is the 6th one to get married and the 5th to have me do pictures. I LOVE shooting Kassi. I've been shooting her for 15 years. She was my first portrait subject in my first color photo class at BYU in 1995...she was still in elementary school! You can see why I love shooting her. She makes all my pictures look amazing.

I don't usually get weepy at weddings, even when it's someone I love as much as Kass. But I was a booby baby all day Saturday. There's just something about her and Tanner together that makes me so happy!! Kass has dated some pretty cool guys, but no one has ever been worthy of her. But Tanner IS!! And he is the luckiest man in the world.

I liked my birthday very much. Bdog's roses got to me before he did and that was rad. Katie made me a bracelet with no help and I love it. Neon Trees played at my birthday party. Bdog took me out for a buffalo steak dinner and gave me the Burberry perfume I wanted. It was dreamy. I ate zucchini bread, got to fulfill my 6 year wish of camping for my birthday, washed my hands in sweet smelling soap, received about 25 cards in the mail from friends & family {including one from Elder Dad and Sister Mom}, and am going to enjoy sushi and a massage this week. Thanks for spoiling me everyone. I have the best homeys in the world.

I am not a big cry baby in normal life...except when it comes to this guy.
Yesterday Baby Connor started his special school and it just plain sucks. I know it's a total miracle that he gets to go here, and that it's the best thing in the world for him, but having him there all day makes me feel like someone chopped my leg off.

He rode the bus this morning and it was more than I can bear. Excuse me while I go throw up and cry.

He really likes Bob, the driver, and MaryKay, the aide. He RAN to the bus this morning he was so excited. They brought the bus over to our house a few days ago just so Connor could meet them and run around the bus and play on it. He knew exactly what to do when he saw it today.

He did great his first day, but seized a lot. His teachers did a good job keeping count, which I really appreciate. He's seizing there because he's in class doing therapy when he would normally be sleeping at home. The less sleep he gets, the more episodes he has. Poor little bubs finally fell asleep at the end of an episode for about 30 minutes. Good thing he'll sleep anywhere.

Hopefully he can adjust to this schedule and get used to not having 500 naps a day. He likes it there, which is great. But I'd so much rather have my little boyfriend with me all day, everywhere. Don't know if I can do this.

24 more hours til the new release. I have to come clean and admit that for the past couple months I've been listening to a horrible quality, bootleg download that leaked somewhere. It is unmixed and sounds like crap. So much so, that I wasn't sure I was liking what I heard. I felt even more disappointed when I saw the video for Lights. I didn't like it. I was scared that my love affair with Interpol was going to be interrupted by this album. I didn't want to have to forgive them for it. My pessimism was furthered when I watched the performance of Barricade on Letterman last month. I love the song, but had to admit that there is a serious loss of mojo without Carlos. Paul was unshaven. He's been wearing trucker hats at shows. His voice wasn't sounding strong. I can only attribute this to what must have been a bad breakup with Helena Christensen. I was having serious Interpol anxiety. Then I saw this:

...and I knew everything was o.k. Yes, Paul looks like he's mourning and in pain, but you know, Helena. So, they're back. They're 100%. It's all good. And October shows are almost here. Rock on.

Yep, this is one of the few posts where I get a little personal. Indulge me. This is Mandy. My very first BFF. I've been thinking about her all week. And here's why:

Years ago...1996 I think, I was in Santa Monica visiting Liz. Of course I was there visiting Mandy too. Mandy and I have a long history of beach trips together and this day was no different. We went to Venice this day. I don't remember much about the day other than lunch. We decided to grab something cheap and quick at a hot dog dive along the boardwalk. It wasn't very busy, about half full of people. There was a man in a wheel chair trying kind-of unsuccessfully to eat his hot dog. It seemed like he was o.k. mentally, but he had a really hard time talking and his hands and mouth weren't working too well. He had mustard all over his face, even down his arm. He was really struggling. People were noticing his distress.

During this, he wheeled over to the counter and was trying to communicate to the worker that he wanted to buy another hot dog. The dude at the counter could not understand him. He kept trying to explain himself but it wasn't working. Mandy knew what he wanted and walked over to him, got his money out of his pocket for him, and bought his hot dog.

Then, she wiped the mustard off his face and arm and FED HIM his 2nd dog. Everyone watched her like they were watching a movie. I can't believe we didn't all stand on our tables and give her a 10 minute applause. It was one of the most self-less, truly Christian acts I've seen. She was my idol that day and I always remember that. I actually think of that sometimes when I take the sacrament on Sundays and promise to be "willing to take upon them [me] the name of thy Son, and always remember Him".

I've been thinking about this a lot because we have had a very special assignment this week in our young women's class at church. We have been helping at the Utah State Developmental Center. This is a group home for severely mentally and physically disabled people. Most of them do not walk or communicate. They are drooly and stinky and absolutely fantastic. We had a wheel chair dance with one group last night and we actually got some smiles. Which isn't easy. I've loved going there and we've got 2 more dates with them. It's a great experience to be there. They really are angels.

Everyone should at one time volunteer in a place like this. Or, volunteer in a hot dog joint some time to help someone in need, or on the street, or in the mall, or at Target. Wherever you are. Like Dieter F. said, "lift where you stand."

Over the last 10 days I have LITERALLY watched over 20 hours of Interpol performances on YouTube. Yeah, that's a little obsessive. But I'm like that about music and you already knew that. I have a lot to say about Interpol, too much to blog about (yes, I still stick to my rule of never spending more than 10 minutes on a post).

So when I woke up this morning and Bdog read me a press release about all the west coast dates they added to their tour, it felt like 5 big Christmas presents. I've been lamenting about their fall tour...all East coast and Europe. I felt seriously shafted. So now I am rejoicing and trying to decide who we will call to cash in some favors.

We love Danny. Danny is my favorite and everyone knows it. I've loved Danny since the first time he made me laugh uncontrollably and inappropriately in our Institute class at UVSC in 1993. He is funnier than anyone you know. His sense of humor is sharp & dry, witty, smart, and totally irreverent. People are very much attracted to him. Last week Miss Katie and I went to D.I. for a spring cleaning drop off. She begged to go inside. She loves looking at all the random old toys and always finds some hidden treasure. I'm actually glad that she's o.k. with second hand toys and not too snobby for them. It makes the little hippie that lives inside my heart very proud and happy.

While we were there I was browsing all the glassware and something caught my eye. These darling drinking glasses with little raised relief bees on them. I didn't know anything about them, but they were $0.75 each and I liked them so I bought all four. When I got home, I googled the name on the bottom: La Rochere. Turns out, they are a french classic designed by the La Rochere Crystallerie in 1475...the oldest glass factory in France. The bees are called Napoleanic Bees and these reproductions sell for around $10 a piece. Not a bad find I'd say. And I love them.

Someone had a really great time taking the couch cushions off for some spring cleaning. And I'm pretty sure he ate a smashed raisin he found under the cushions 'cause when I went to vacuum it up, it was gone. Watching Connor jump on the couch and crack himself up when he gets so much air, might be the best thing in the whole wide world.

Internet, I just wanted to tell you that this week Baby Connor has started pointing a little. On purpose. And he's sharing bites of food with me. On purpose. And he showed me his ears and nose. And signed for more nuts, and stayed next to me while walking outside and didn't run away. He's had 2 clusters of tonic spasms this week and a couple absence seizures, but not too many, and not too intense. He's also pulling food down off the counter deliberately so he can eat it, and not just dropping it to the ground and letting it spill all over. It's pretty cool.

You are so cute and we just love you. Thank you for bringing Katie so many fun things over the last 10 days. What a pleasant surprise it's been for her to get some extra attention. I'm assuming whoever you are, that you know she's needed a lot of special attention lately. I'm happy to report that she's been doing fantastic! I was gone all last week, and she only had to have a lunch visit ONCE from grandma and was fine the rest of the week. She told me yesterday that she doesn't need any more lunch visits from me and I'm expecting she'll still feel that way tomorrow. I think she's felt extra love all around the last couple weeks, so Thank you, for contributing to that. I have a hunch or two who you might be, but I know you're not coming clean. Today Katie turned in her first big project of her elementary school career. She had to make a book of at least 10 jokes...complete with illustrations. She worked very hard on this over the last few weeks. She did some of the pages on the computer, and some of them by hand. Here are a couple of her computer illustrations. Today the most gorgeous person in the world turns 3. He got special vegan treats from Aunt Vicki and an awesome truck from Danny...a toy he's acutally PLAYING with. It's a birthday miracle. He even had cookies for breakfast and a special surprise visit from DADDY!!! I know every parent thinks they love their child more than anyone has ever loved a child, but for us, that's actually true. There are no words to express what we feel for Baby Connor. Happy birthday, Bubs. We are forever in love with you.

If you don't know what Broken Bells is, it's the new project by James Mercer and Danger Mouse. And if you don't know who James Mercer is, he's the singer from The Shins. And if you don't know who The Shins are, you've been living under a rock. Just kidding. You're not living under a rock. But the album is fantastic. I really love it and it's on heavy rotation over here. (It must be something to get Habits out of the disc player.) I'd like to say that it's great, but not as great as The Shins, only because The Shins hold a special place in my heart since a sweet high school friend, Marty Crandall, played bass for them. But I can't. I think it's even more awesome than any Shins record, and you might too.

And the winner is...Sierra Leone. My rents are leaving on a mission on June 14th to Sierra Leone. That's pretty insane and it hasn't really sunk in yet. I'm really excited for them and proud and anxious. My mom is already nervous about the food :) They got their call in the mail yesterday and hopped in their car and drove all the way up here from LV to open it. So awesome.

I won't post any pics of the happy tears.

The newest addition to our family arrived today. After our 2 year pregnancy it was quite a relief that it came earlier than expected. At 8:30 a.m. a big truck dropped off 1,000 copies of this:

Set your TiVo's. Neon Trees will be on MTV this Wed. and Sat. as part of "10 Artists To Watch In 2010". I don't know what time it will be on in your city, you'll have to check your TV sched but it will be sometime in the morning. Someone please record it so I can see it :)

Also, if you don't already know, Habits will be out on March 16 everywhere.

And, there will be a listening party here in UT at Velour on March 12 before it comes out. You can listen to the CD, the band will play it live, but no, you can't buy the CD there.

Also, you can watch them on Jimmy Kimmel Live March 23. (See you there!)

And, they will be playing SXSW this year and I'm super bummed that I won't be there. But if you can go, you should. They are playing many times that week.

Then, they leave on tour with 30 Seconds To Mars and Mute Math for a while. The first show of the tour is in LV April 9 at The Pearl inside The Palms. See you there!

We've had a foster child for the last week and we're in love with her. Sadly, she can't stay. I'm super allergic to her and Baby Connor can't keep his hands out of her litter box. eww!! She is the most amazing cat EVER. She's totally house trained. No accidents. No scratching or biting. Total cuddling and cuteness all day, everyday. She's gorgeous. You can hold her like a baby. She's not bugged by kids tossing her around. She's quiet. She's soft. She's clean. I'm telling you Internet, she's AMAZING. Don't you want her? She needs a permanent home!!

I'm sorry if you don't have a friend like hot neighbor Michelle. Everything she makes is amazing. I've never had someone give me neighbor gifts for Christmas like her gifts. Remember this? And this? Yeah, she's creative and crafty like that. And she was sneaky and printed out some pictures of our crew and magically put them on these rad blocks with all kinds of texture and goodness on them for Christmas. I LOVE them.

And you must also know, that Michelle knits like nobody's biz. She is making hats, headbands, flower clips, headbands, baby hats and probably a million other awesome things. You can buy them. They are custom and they are AWESOME. See them HERE. Must. Have. Flower. Clippy. Look at them!!!
